Weekend

Well, it was an absolutely b-e-a-utiful weekend! We had some fun at the zoo and riding bikes this weekend, enjoying the outdoors.

Here's one of the best pics I took at the zoo.

I am going to learn how to great pics. I really enjoy photography and I'm tired of having tons of mediocre shots! We love taking pics of our boys and I really enjoying trying to get some interesting pics of anything. So, that's one of my goals this year is to learn how to take excellent photos with an slr camera, lighting, iso,... all that jazz. Right now I don't have plans to take it to the biz level but... who knows. I just want to have some really good results if I'm going to be putting effort into something.

So, I'm going to be reading and watching tutorials but if anyone out there would like to pass along some tips or tricks...I WELCOME them with open arms!

Okay, you need to get pick up

Okay, you need to get pick up Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. He breaks it all down in a way that just "clicks," no pun intended.

Also, check out I Love Photography. They have a bunch of tutorials and message boards if you just want to browse around. I never post there but I've learned a lot just by reading.

The shot above is great, the tip I would give for you to improve one like it would be to grab something to reflect the light up towards his face, eliminating the shadow cast by his hat. My favorite, cheap reflector is foam core/board. You can pick it up at Hobby Lobby, Michael's... maybe even Target or WM. Poor Henry has taken many a picture holding this stuff, out of frame, of course!

For the best flash-free, reflector-free lighting, go out in the afternoon (4 or 5 works for me) when the sun isn't directly overhead. You want the light but not too much. Overcast days are really the best!
